Cartoonist Oliphant Joins CD Staff

An original cartoon by Pulitzer Prize winner Pat Oliphant
appears in The Cavalier Daily today on page two. The satirical
works of Mr. Oliphant join The Cavalier Daily this year as a
regular attraction of the features section.

The young artist won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Sigma
Delta Chi award for editorial cartooning in 1966. His
prize-winning panel for the latter award appears above.

The work of Mr. Oliphant, a native of South Australia, has
been appearing since the middle of 1964 in his home newspaper,
the Denver Post. His cartoons are also syndicated to more than
125 other newspapers across the country.

The young satirist was already a cartoonist of note when he
and his family arrived in the United States five years ago. In 1958
he won one of the two top prizes in London's "Great Challenge
Editorial Cartoonist Competition," an international, contest
designed to find the funniest editorial cartoon in the world.

Although he still retains his Australian accent, Mr. Oliphant's
cartoon panels reflect the understanding and incisive outlook that
he has quickly developed on the American way of life.
