Florida For Break

Stickmen Face Mounties

One of the most powerful club
teams in the nation will provide the
opposition for the Cavalier Lacrosse
team this weekend.

Virginia's stickmen will travel to
Baltimore Saturday to meet the Mt.
Washington Lacrosse Club, which
consists of the past all-Americans
and great lacrosse players from a
variety of the Lacrosse powers in
the East.

Although Mt. Washington is
considered to probably be the best,
last season they were beaten for the
Club Championship by Long Island
Lacrosse Club.

Mt. Washington is led by their
two very strong midfields, all of
which were all-Americans. They are
young, for club players, and are
quick. A standout in the first
midfield has been Jerry
Schniedman who won all-American
honors at Hopkins two years ago.
Experience in the first midfield is
added by old hand, Abe Teiderman.

The Mounties' second midfield
is also very strong. Two brothers,
Joe and Al Seibol, have been
getting the job done along with
Stockton Buck.

A lot of the contest could be
decided here in the midfields. The
Cavaliers strength has been in this
department, too. An important
aspect of these strengths is who will
be able to get the face-offs, the
ground balls, and control the ball to
make the other team play their
game.

On attack for the Mounties it
will be Pete Smith, June graduate
from Maryland, playing the crease,
and Harry Fisher.

Age and experience come in on
the Mounties' defense. These stickmen
have been playing together for
a long time and form a cohesive,
capable unit. Their game is a
hard-hitting one with a lot of body
contact.

More experience is added to
the Mt. Washington defense by
their fine goalie, Brian Poole.

Regardless of these advantages
and talent, last week in a scrimmage
with the Terrapin stickmen, the
Mounties found themselves on the
short end of a 6-4 score.

In the past it has always been a
tough hard-fought contest for the
Cavaliers. The lineup for Virginia
has not been altered since last
weekend. Charlie Rullman, Frank

Quayle, and Jim Potter will be
leading the offensive game, and
Pete Coy will head the defensive
effort.

Right after the game, the stick
men will be leaving for Florida to
practice and scrimmage
Swarthmore, Cornell, and Duke.
