St. A. Wins In IM's;
Lough Top Athlete

By Bob Niles
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

As the final week of the 196768
Intramural season draws to a
close, the only competition yet
unfinished is the finals of the
High Point singles in badminton.
Allen Lough of Phi Psi and Roy
Benedict of Chi Psi will bring
down the curtain on a very successful
intramural year.

St. Anthony Hall has won the
High Point Trophy with a total
of 2167 points. Rounding out the
top five houses are Zete, Phi Kap,
Phi Psi, and Phi Gam. In winning,
St. A has set records for
the highest point total and the
largest margin of victory. Tom
Moore has done an excellent job
of organizing a very talented group
of athletes.

Outstanding IM Athlete

The Jim Kelly Memorial Award
for the outstanding intramural athlete
of the year was won by Allen
Lough, a 4th year member of
Phi Psi. Lough was the doubles
champion of high point tennis, a
quarterfinalist in singles tennis,
semi-finalist in the high point
handball singles and doubles champion
of that sport. He went to the
third round of the squash tournament
and was the winner of the
Independent A handball tourney.
In swimming he has participated
in all four meets, winning places
three times. In 1965 Lough was
semi-finalist in the wrestling
tournament, finalist in 1966 and
this year lost to the eventual champion
of his weight class by the
score of 1-0.

In badminton doubles he is the
1967 defending champion and as
earlier mentioned he has presently
progressed to the finals of the
badminton tournament, having upset
Tom McCord of St. A.
As well, he has participated in
football, basketball, and softball.

Phi Psi has made the greatest
advancement in intramural standings,
rising to 4th place from
22nd in 1967. Truly, much of
their success is due to the fine
performances of Allen Lough.

Senior Manager of this year's
intramural program, Buzzy Male,
has expressed gratitude to the
various intramural managers of the
houses, referees, and all those
interested students who have
helped carry out this year's program.
