Tri-Captains Chosen For Soccer

By Tom Sansonettl

Three standouts on the Virginia
soccer team that posted a 3-9
record last fall have been named
tri-captains for the 1968 squad.

Coach Gordon has named
Russell Ketcham, Carter Gunn,
and Johnny Taylor to shoulder
the leadership load for the coming
season.

Ketcham is a 6′ 2″, 205 lb.
center fullback from Wilmington,
Delaware. He was the main cog-in
the Virginia defense that showed
a wealth of improvement compared
to the sieve-like editions of the past.

Gunn Leads Halfbacks

Gunn, who hails from Norfolk,
plays center halfback. He is a
5′ 10″, 165 lb. senior. One of his
major duties next year will be to
keep the ball in the opponent's
half of the field, thus enhancing
the possibility of more Cavalier
shots on goal.

According to Coach Burris,
Johnny Taylor has well-earned his
position of responsibility, although
he will be only a third-year man
next season. The Cavaliers are
counting on the 5′ 11″, 170 lb.
Philadelphian to spark the offense
come fall. Having scored four goals
in 1967, Taylor hopes to follow
in the footsteps of his brother,
Rusty, an All-American this year
at Lynchburg College.

There will be a required meeting
for those interested in playing
soccer next year at 10 p.m. Thursday,
February 15, in University
Hall.
