Deavers Caught Sampling His Wares

22 drug-related arrests last
month throughout the
Charlottesville area culminating
two months of extensive
investigation, was reportedly
attending a "pot" party at the
infamous Appomattox
"Downtown" hotel, which is
owned and operated by the
well-known "parlor-attendant"
Madame Razookes.

The police were tipped off
by a group of University of
Virginia students

Also confiscated in the
search were various alleged
drug paraphernalia including
12 packs of Zig-Zag smoking
papers, several varieties of
scented and fruit flavored
smoking papers, fine hospital
"roach" clips, various pipes
and one large hookah.

Also found on the scene
were several packs of matches.

Police said that Deavers was
so "high" when the police
picked him up that he did not
even recognize one of his own
men. The officer said later,

"Carl was sure feeling no pain.
He was off duty til six, so he
must have just decided to stop
at the Downtown and get high
before coming on duty."

The Federal Narcotics
Board sent its own lackey to
Appomattox yesterday to "get
the facts," a spokesman said.

"We can take no chances
where there is a chance of
scandal," the spokesman said.
"Especially with the Watergate
affair still on the front pages."

After being freed on bond,
Deavers denied his guilt in the
affair and said that he hopes he
will be able to serve his time in
the new state prison facility
being constructed in the
Rotunda.
