Keglers Bowled Over
Men,Women Both Succumb

The Virginia Bowling Club
found disaster in Blacksburg
Sunday afternoon and were
virtually eliminated from the
conference race in losing to the
Gobblers 48-42. Tech was
never behind in the match, and
wrapped up the victory after
the fourth game, when Virginia
missed a crucial spare in the
tenth frame.

Virginia, headed by captain
Dave Butler's 1062
performance, turned an
excellent 4701 (188 average)
and actually outrolled the
Gobblers by 10 pins, but
Virginia continually lost the
close game and was
consequently outpointed. Lee
Cassell of Virginia Tech rolled
a 1068 series, the high series of
the year in the Southern
Intercollegiate Conference.
Anchorman Gary Dungan
bowled a 965 set and
second-year man Andy Humm
shot a 921 series.

Virginia's record is now 3-2.
with three matches remaining.
Maryland remains undefeated
at 6-0 and must stumble
against the Duke team for the
Cavs to have a shot at the title
in their oncoming match with
Maryland.

The women's bowling team
also suffered defeat at the
hands of Virginia Tech, losing
62-28 and being outrolled by
235 pins. Amy Lane of
Virginia rolled a 916 for five
games, and bested Lindy
Ziegler, the women's regional
all events champion, four out
of five games in head to head
competition.
