Keglers Roll Past
Tough Tech Club

By ALAN ALTSCHULER

The Virginia Bowling Club
struggled to their third
consecutive win Saturday with
an unconvincing 56-34 decision
over the stubborn Gobblers
from Virginia Tech. Possibly
suffering from the team's one
and one-half month layoff, the
keglers looked all but sharp in
recording their third victory
against one defeat.

Virginia fell behind early,
dropping the first game by 5
pins, 13-3 due mainly to a
tenth frame collapse. Strong
performances by Gary Dungan
and Steve Slight, capped by
Dungan's 231 third game,
enabled Virginia to take a
commanding 30-18 lead after
three games. But the Gobblers
were not to be denied, as Lee
Casswell's 241 fourth game
headed a strong Tech rally
which knotted the match at 32
apiece with only one game
remaining. The Virginia
bowlers responded well to the
pressure in the fifth game,
pulling away from the
Gobblers after the sixth frame
and captured the match 56-34,
holding Tech to only two
points in the final game.

Captain Dave Butler led
Virginia bowlers with a 955,
anchorman Dungan rolled a
943, and first-year man slight
turned in a 904 performance.

The keglers travel this week
to Knoxville, Tennessee to
compete in the American
College Union International
regionals. The women's
bowling team will also compete
this week in the tournament.
