Cagers Scrimmage
In Orange And Blue

By RANDY WERT

Cavalier basketball coach Bill
Gibson has announced that the
annual Orange-and-Blue intrasquad
game will be held this Saturday
approximately one hour after the
conclusion of the U.Va.-North
Carolina football game.

Fresh from a 130-64 pounding
of Splugen Gorizia of Italy
yesterday a week ago, Coach
Gibson's men are ready for a
tougher task-playing each other.
The contest will begin about 5:15
in University Hall and will feature
members of the varsity and five
freshmen players divided by the
coaches into two evenly matched
squads. Doors will open at 4:30
that afternoon for the regulation
contest which will be the last
chance for the University and the
community to preview the 1971-72
edition of the "Amazin' Cavaliers."

"It's going to be geared."
indicated Mr. Gibson, "to begin
about one hour after the football
game. They are going to charge
adults $1.00 and students can get in
on their I.D." Gibson cited three
reasons for holding the contest
including exposing the team to
playing before a large "ACC"
crowd and familiarizing the fans
with the personnel this year and the
system Mr. Gibson and his
assistants Chip Connor and Terry
Truax use. The third value of the
scrimmage is that the proceeds will
be used toward the basketball
recruiting program.

Barry Parkhill led the Cavaliers
in points against the hapless
foreigners with 20 while Jim
Hobgood had 19 and Scott
McCandlish, Lanny Stahurski, Chip
Miller, Al Drummond, and Frank
Dewitt all scored in double figures

Miller will not see action this
weekend due to illness and
Stahurski is nursing a congested
condition but hopefully will be
ready. Bob McCurdy is also still
bothered by a painful hip pointer.
