Tankmen Capture Tourney

The Cavaliers, led by three
all-tournament selections, topped
Washington and Lee Saturday,
12-7, to take the first state water
polo tournament.

Team captain Bob Koisch,
Gordon Nettschke, and Rich
Sheehy were named to the
seven-man all-tournament team as
they led the Cavalier A Team to
the title. The B team finished fifth
in the round-robin affair.

The Cavaliers reached the finals
by taking three easy wins over state
opponents. They topped Richmond
25-3, William and Mary 28-4, and
VMI 22-9. The Keydets won the
consolation game with a 22-19 win
over Lynchburg, the runner-up in
the other division of the tourney.

The tournament was the first on
the East Coast in water polo, a
sport which is popular in the West.
Meet director Ron Good, who now
turns his attention to preparing his
squad for the upcoming swim
season, said that there are plans for
a similar tournament next year in
the new pool at University Hall.
