Top Twenty

Nebraska maintained its firm
grasp on the first-place, but
Michigan was the big story in the
UPI Top 20 this week as it moved
from fourth place to second place
in the new rankings, released
yesterday.

The Wolverines, by virtue of a
38-0 romp over UCLA, supplanted
Notre Dame in the second spot.
The Fighting Irish just edged
Purdue, 8-7, but retained one vote
for the first place in dropping to
fourth. Texas held on to third place
and Alabama moved up to fifth.
The Colorado Buffaloes moved up
four notches from tenth place after
a dramatic 20-14 upset of Ohio
State. The Buffs also received one
first-place ballot.

Auburn, Oklahoma, Stanford
and Washington, each undefeated
rounded out the top ten. North
Carolina (2-0) checked into the top
twenty at number eighteen and in
the AP poll, released earlier
Monday, Duke was ranked
nineteenth and UNC twentieth.
