Pistols Win

U.Va. pistol shooters
Preston Hewitt and George
Duckworth won awards in a
2700-point tournament held
recently at Quantico. The
all-day meet consisted of a
series of 16 matches using
pistols from .22 to .45-caliber.
The 100 competitors were
grouped into Marksman,
Sharpshooter, Expert, and
Master classifications based on
previous scores, and divided on the
basis of civilian or military status.

Preston Hewitt took first place
in the Civilian Expert class for the
.22-caliber "Aggregate Match" with
842 out of 900. Hewitt also placed
second in four other matches and
scored a grand total of 2423 out of
2700.

George Duckworth, team
captain, received the award for the
Highest Overall score in the
.22-caliber "National Match
Course", firing 294 out of 300,
competing in the Service Master
class due to Army Reserve training,
Duckworth took second place in
another three matches and had a
total of 2547 out of 2700.
