Pistol Captain Takes Reserve Meet
In Small Arms Class Championship

U. Va. Pistol Team Captain George
Duckworth took the Individual
Pistol Trophy in the 80th Division
(Reserve Training) Small Arms
Championship Match at Fort Eustis
Virginia on October 3&4. Duckworth
is an SP4 with a local Army
Reserve company which is one of
the many 80th Division units
throughout the state.

Received Bronze Medal

Last year Duckworth received
the Virginia High Collegiate Award
and won a Bronze Medal in the
National Intercollegiate Championships,
placing in the country's top
dozen college shooters. The Team
also racked up a successful season
and won a Sectional Match held
here last spring.

About 70 Reservists, including
four from Charlottesville, competed
in the pistol match. The match
consisted of a 300-point course of
Slow, Timed, and Rapid fire at 75
and 150 feet, fired with standard
unmodified Army .45-caliber semiautomatic
pistols. In his first Army
match, the Cavalier Team Captain
staged an upset over veteran military
shooters with a winning total of
238 points, a good score for the
as-issued G.I. handgun.
