Soccer Team Stayed Undefeated With 6-0 Win Over W&L

Jay Connor's Three Goals Led Booters To Third Shutout Of Year

Cavalier soccer took another
step toward an unblemished season
by recording a 7-0 romp over Washington
and Lee Sunday on Carr's
Hill Field. Third year tri-captain
Jay Connor led the Virginia attack
with three goals as the home
booters totally outclassed the Generals.

Leading 5-0 at the half by virtue
of a late second quarter scoring
burst, the Cavalier bench was
emptied in the second half, but still
W&L could not crack the scoring
column as goalies Jim Glaser and
Alex Bonlewicz chalked up their
third shutout in four matches.
Connor hit first for the, Cavaliers
with only five minutes gone in the
contest and Ted Knetzger, who also
had an assist, followed soon after
with a hard shot which caromed off
the hands of W&L's goalie.

The three goal barrage in the
second period featured Connor's
second score as well as goals by
Sam Crosby and Phil Crane put
Virginia up 5-0. Andy DuPont
tallied in the fourth quarter just
prior to the last score of Conner's
hat trick which wound up the
scoring.

According to Co-coach Henry
Lewis, the booters, who have
scored 21 goals in four games
(compared to 24 for the entire
season last year) "looked much
quicker and much readier" Sunday
compared to the tie at William and
Mary which "did a lot of good."
