Top Deacons

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Two
of Wake Forest's most consistent
performers this season, running
back Gary Johnson and defensive
tackle Win Headley, have been selected
as "Deacs of the Week"
following last weekend's Florida
State game.

"We said before the season that
Headley was one of the best defensive
tackles in the country," said
head coach Cal Stoll, "and he has
certainly lived up to our expectation.
He's played well all year, but
was at his finest Saturday night."

Against the Seminoles, Headley
contributed nine individual tackles
and added three assists. For the
season, he now has 18 individual
stops and seven assists.

"He really came up with some
crucial stops Saturday night," said
Stoll. "He's not only a fine player,
but has a very highly competitive
attitude."

Johnson enjoyed his finest game
of the year by collecting 110 yards
on 14 carries against Florida State.
His 47-yard run set up the Deacons'
second touchdown and the
202-pound junior added runs of 15
and 16 yards.

"We felt Gary had too much
physical power not to play somewhere
this season" said Stoll, "so
we switched him to running back in
the spring. He has really caught fire
this fall. He has been a consistent
performer in all three games. He is
the type of player who does everything
well."
