Va.-Md. Baseball
Rained Out

Clemson's Tigers still lead the
Atlantic Coast Conference baseball
race — thanks in large part to their
strong pitchers — but he first flaw
entered their record Tuesday.

The blotch on their previous
12-0 winning streak came when
South Carolina took advantage of a
homer in the bottom of the seventh
inning to eke out a 2-1 victory.

But the Tigers only took defeat
once. In the second game of the
doubleheader at Columbia, they
bounced back to win — by the same
2-1 margin. That leaves their record
at 13-1 with no game today.

North Carolina recorded the
other league victory Tuesday,
downing Duke by that same 2-1
score. Both tallies came from pitch
runners stepping in for pitcher
Eddie Hill and catcher Mike
Roberts after the battery-men made
it on base. Hill singled and Roberts
walked.

The Virginia at Maryland
contest scheduled for Tuesday was
postponed because of rain.

The afternoon's action puts
Wake Forest at Virginia Tech for a
double bill. But other ACC teams
are idle.
