High School Tournament
Finals To Be Held In U Hall

University Hall hosts the Virginia
High School League's championship
basketball games this
weekend. The first game will be a
Group II affair Friday at 2:00 p.m
Castlewood (22-2) takes on unbeaten
Luray (22-0) of District 1.

The evening portion of the
schedule features the Group I
finalists. The 7:15 game pis
Thomas Edison (20-3) against
Maury (19-1). Edison of Arlington
is led by two All-Regional selections
in Pete Dellaven and Steve
Morris. Two All-Tidewater players
lead the Commodores from Norfolk.
Craig Leider, pre-season
honorable mention All-American
averaging 22.0 points per game, and
Charlie Carr (20 point average).

The 9 p.m. clash features two
semi-finalists from last year, Jefferson
Senior of Roanoke (20-1) and
Maggie Walker of Richmond (18-2).
Jefferson is led by All-Regional
choice Mike Franklin, a hulking
center averaging 17 points, and
Ronnie Marsh. The Green Dragons
are led by district MVP Richard
Jones' 23 points a game and
regional MVP Kent Murray's 20
point average.

Games Saturday begin with the
Group III Championship at 2 p.m.,
when King George (19-3) tries to
break Hardin Reynolds (16-2)
three-year grip on the title.

The Group II is decided by
3:30 when the winner of the
Castlewood-Luray contest meets
the survivor of the Thomas Walker Hayden
game. That night at 8 the
Group I title is decided similarly
with the winner of Edison-Maury
meeting the victor of the Jefferson Walker.

Prices for reserved seates for the
tournament will be two dollars
while general admission will only be
$1.50.
