Sinesky & Morris Win Events

Indians Win State Crown

William and Mary, led by its
powerful runners, completely
dominated other state competition
on way to capturing the Virginia
collegiate indoor track and field
meet held at Lexington Saturday
night.

The Indians got two exceptional
performances from two of its
middle distance runners. Howell
Michael and Ted Wood. Michael
won the mile and 1,000 yard runs
and anchored the winning two-mile
relay team, while Wood nearly set a
meet record in the 880 with a
1:54.7, just one-tenth second off
the mark.

William and Mary finished with
100 points to second place Virginia
Tech's 53. The rout started in the
afternoon when Bruce Dallas took
first in the high jump. This
performance was quickly followed
by first places in the triple jump
and in the pole vault by the
Indians. Bud Temea and Dan
Henneburg.

Virginia's Cavaliers were fourth
overall with 27 points. This
performance was led by a strong
showing in the field events, capped
by A Sinesky's meet record in the
shot put.

Sinesky got off a 53 feet. 4½
inch throw to add a foot and a half
to the previous meet record set
eight years ago. Him Shannon was
another standout for the Cavaliers,
placing second in the broad pump
with 23 feet. 6 inches.

On the running side. John
Morris turned in two outstanding
quarter miles, winning the 440 year
run in 49.9 and anchoring the
-relay team to second place in
49.2.

The final scoring for the meet
was William and Mary 100. Tech
53. Norfolk State 42. and Virginia
27.
