Cavalier Mermen Win
Second Against ODU

"I hope we do better against
Catholic U. tomorrow,"
commented Coach Ron Good after
yesterday's easy win over ODU,
"We won't practice at 6:30 a.m.
like we did today, and, besides,
three losses in one season are
enough." Such was the prevalent
attitude in the 65-39 swamping of
Virginia's Norfolk neighbor in the
Memorial Gym pool.

Third-year man Don Farmer,
first-year man Jack Martin and
second-year man Gary Chewning
led the romp as the Mermen took
seven of twelve events to run their
season record to 2-3.

Farmer won the 200 yard
backstroke, led off the victorious
400 Medley relay and placed
second in the 200 yard
Chewning could only take second
in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyles
but he did set a school record in the
1000 with an 11:13 flat. He was
edged by a foot after leading for
about 990 yards by Old Dominion's
Bob Guy. Martin garnered his
laurels with victories in the 100
yard and 50 yard freestyles.

Other winning Cavaliers were
John Shrum, Joel Curtis and Steve
Remine. The winning medley relay
was composed of Farmer, Gerry
Rollins, Brian Fuller and Joe
Curtis.
