Gymnasts Lose Opener,
Host Tri-Meet Today

In a close triangular meet, the
University of Virginia Gymnastics
team was edged out by West
Chester and Towson State. Final
Scores, West Chester 112.17; Towson
State 98.03; Virginia 82.63.
The team was handicapped by the
absence of Bill Livingstone, who
suffered a pulled muscle thus
keeping him out of competition.

Club Sponsor, Frank Murray
was especially pleased with the
results on the side horse where
Evan Robinson and Rich Lutz,
team captain, tied for 2nd place,
and Jack Kinkaid followed close
behind with a third.

Fred Schroeder in an unexpected
performance of strength and
endurance placed third on the rings
and turned in two excellent routines
on the high bar and the
parallel bars.

Captain Rich Lutz, an all round
performer, captured a second place
on the parallel bars, being edged
out of first by one-tenth of a point.

Second-year man Tom Riley, for
the first time in his career, worked
three events and indicated that he,
expected to go to four in the next
meet.

First-year men Jay McGarvey,
Dan Warsing and Will Burr entered
their first meet and each turned in
surprisingly good performances.

Despite the loss, the gymnasts
were pleased with the results in
individual events and are keeping
their hopes high for the meet this
Friday in Memorial Gym when they
confront the University of North
Carolina and Frostburg State.
