Malletmen Whip Meadowbrook,
9-3 Victory Keeps Unbeaten Skein
Scoring a whopping nine goals
against a highly touted
Meadowbrook trio, the University
of Virginia polo team upped its
spring season record to a highly
admirable 5-0 ledger, maintaining
an unbeaten status.
Rated at seven goals, the
Meadowbrook team was led by
Harry Wilson and Zene Colt, both
three-goal players. Roger Rinehart,
who plays out of Charlottesville,
filled in for a missing Long Island
rider to round out the
Meadowbrook ranks.
Rob Rinehart played his
strongest game to date for Virginia,
scoring four goals in the four
chukkars of play. Field Captain
Ray Norden, rated at one goals,
tallied two additional goals to bring
the total Virginia output to six
Meadowbrook, by virtue of its
seven-goal team rating, spotted the
Virginians three goals at the start of
the match. But the Long Island
pony riders could only muster three
goals, with Messrs. Rinehart, Colt,
and Wilson collecting one goal
apiece.
The three goal handicap proved
to be insignificant, as the Virginia
polo association ran up a 9-3
decision over the Meadowbrook
trio. Sunday's victory lengthened
the club's win streak to five in a
row, without suffering defeat.
Cornell University, "probably
the strongest in inter-collegiate
polo," according to club president
John Cutler, will provide the
opposition this Sunday afternoon.
Cornell happens to be the last team
to beat the Virginians at Brook Hill
Farm, edging the Cavaliers last fall,
The price tag of one slim dollar
remains as the only condition to
entry out on 29 North.
