W-L To Sponsor Goshen
Tubing Races Next Week

In a never ending search for the
bizarre and the exotic in the world
of sports, the Cavalier Daily wishes
to publicize the Third Annual
Goshen Classic White Water Tubing
Contest.

To be held on Saturday, April
26, at 2 in the afternoon, the
Tubing competitions are sponsored
by the Ring-tum Phi at Washington
and Lee University. The main event
scheduled is the Downriver Grand
Slalom, and it is open to all male
students from any school.
Apparently contestants from as far
away as the University of Kansas
have entered.

Tubing, somewhat of a
traditional pastime in Lexington,
can be simply defined as the art of
shooting rapids in an inner tube. In
addition to the Downriver Grand
Slalom, the Ring-tum Phi is
featuring a Powderpuff
Sweepstakes, open to all
courageous young ladies, and the
President's Trophy Race, open to
any member of the staff or faculty
of the university.

The tubing festival will take
place at Goshen Pass, about 25
miles west of Lexington on
highway 39. The deadline for all
willing entrees is 5 PM, April 25,
and a fee of two dollars is a
prerequisite for putting a tube in
the water.

All interested tubers should
contact Jerry Perlman for entry
applications or additional
information; Mr. Perlman's address
in Lexington is 800 McCorkle Drive,
zip code 24450, and telephone
number 463-4197.

Rumor has it that a highly
qualified team from the Cavalier
Daily is planning an excursion to
Goshen Pass to participate. Mr.
Perlman has encouraged
organizations to participate.

One more thing, bring your own
inner tube.
