Cavalier Horsemen
Defeat Alumni, 6-4

Virginia's Polo Club opened its
spring season on a victorious note
by upsetting a strong, highly
favored Alumni team, 6-4, at Brook
Hill Farm.

Although the Alumni, whose
team consisted of Virginia Coach
Harry Robertshaw and former stars
George Greenhalgh and Fred
Peterson, took an early lead by
scoring three times in the first
period, their team could not
maintain the pace.

The consistently effective
defensive play of Virginia Captain
Ray Norden prevented the Alumni
from scoring again until late in the
fourth period.

Virginia's offense was also led
by Norden, who scored once in
every period except the third.
Norden was backed up by Rob
Rinchart who rallied once in the
second period and helped the
Cavaliers to a 4-3 halftime lead.

In spite of the fact that both
teams scored a total of four goals
apiece during the actual
competition. Virginia was allotted
two more goals: one by handicap at
the beginning of the contest and
another as a result of a Number one
penalty called against the Alumni in
the final period.

The out was called against the
Alumni back Fred Peterson as he
crossed the line of play attempting
to divert what appeared to be a
certain goal for the Cavalier
malletmen.

Next Sunday the Virginia team
will face, for the first time at Brook
Hill Farm, a trio from Highview
Farm in Rochester. N. Y. Next
weekend the Elis from Yale-invade
for what has traditionally been a
very tough contest.
