Stickmen Face Carolina

By Bill Edgerton
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

The University of Virginia
lacrosse team will host the Tar
Heels of North Carolina today in
their third official season game
after successfully defeating the
famed Mount Washington Lacrosse
Club of Baltimore tow weeks ago
and, as Coach Beardmore stated,
"the best of the Ivy League," when
they outscored and outplayed the
Bruins of Brown. The match today
will be played on Carr's Hill Field
at three pm.

Carolina will be led by
attack man Harper Peterson and
goalie Peter Karmer. Kramer, a
junior, was a little all-American first
team goalie last season by his fine
job in the Bucknell game where he
made 24 saves, but he should have a
bit more of a job against first-year
men Doug Tarring and Jay Connor,
who will be assisting veterans Jim
Potter, Charlie Rullman, George
Edwards in what has become a very
powerful offensive machine.

Pete Coy's defense which did an
adequate job on Wednesday should
be able to handle the attack efforts
of Harper Peterson, who gained
all-American honors last year as a
sophomore, and his attack. He also
made his best showing this year in
the Bucknell game by scoring seven
out of the eight goals scored.

The Tar Heels are 3-1 for the
season, their only loss being to
Washington College. Carolina is a
bit leery about the game today as
expressed by their head coach when
he stated, "This will be our hardest
week of the year." This will be
their first game away from Chapel
Hill and should prove an asset to
the Cavaliers.

If the team is successful in
today's game they will face the
powerful Hopkins team in
Baltimore next week, with an
unblemished mark. To the team
this Hopkins game could be very
crucial.

Virginia Lacrosse Team Goes For Fourth Win Of Season Today

The Cavaliers' midfield will
again carry the burden and may
well be the key to success with
their experience and depth.

First-year men Doug Tarring,
Jay Connor, and Bob Proutt have
added their efforts and generally
filled some holes on the team.
