Pegues First At 137
Grapplers Second In ACC
Maryland's Terrapins captured
nine of eleven individual titles in
rolling up a record 126 points on
the way to their fifteenth
consecutive ACC Wrestling
Tournament Championship last
Saturday.
Second-year man John Pegues,
wrestling in the 137 class, was the
only man to defeat a Terp in the
finals when he decisioned Tom
Talbert 5-3. There were also four
other Cavaliers in the finals as
Virginia garnered 65 points and
second place.
Two of the Terps' winners,
Gobel Kline and Howard Zachman,
were doing so for the third time.
Kline pinned Virginia's Ted Moore
and Zachman pinned Virginia's Mac
Horton.
Other Virginia wrestlers to make
the finals were John Pitas, who was
decisioned by John Baker of
Maryland in the 130 pound class,
and Tom Moore, who was
decisioned by the Terps' Curt
Callaghan in the 152 pound class.
