ACC Tourney
Tight Finish Seen
Only two things appear certain
about this year's ACC basketball
race; the two Carolina's will battle
down to the wire for the regular
season title and the top seed in the
tournament, and Clemson and
Maryland will be battling to avoid
the basement and the obvious
consequences. Conceivably; the
other four clubs could finish 7-7,
forcing coin flips for tournament
seedings.
Here's how it could work: Duke
at 7-5 has two games left-at State
and home to North Carolina- two
possible losses; State, presently 6-5,
plays at Wake Forest and entertains
Duke and South Carolina, a feasible
1-2 record; Virginia, currently 5-6,
has road engagements with the
Gamecocks and Tigers and is at
home against the Deacons, a
reasonable 2-1 finish; Wake Forest
at 4-6 has Home-and-home
encounters left with Clemson and
another Winston-Salem engagement
with the Wolfpack, plus a trip to
Charlottesville not an improbable
3-1 likelihood.
