Quayle, Reeve Picked To Play
In North-South Shrine Game

Two University of Virginia
football players will be spending
their Christmas holidays in Miami
this year. Tailback Frank Quayle
and safety Paul will be performing
for the South team in the
23rd annual North-South Shrine
Game on Christmas day.

Quayle has also been invited to
play on another South squad, that
of the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama
on January 11 of next year.
There he will join Houston's Paul
Gipson and Tulane's Warren
Bankston in the powerful Dixie
running attack.

The record setting runner from
Garden City, N.Y. broke every
existing Atlantic Coast Conference
record for rushing during his three
year career. He holds the single
game mark of 221 against Maryland
in 1966; the record for total yards
on the ground in a season with
1,213 in 1968; and career rushing
yardage with 2,695. In addition,
Quayle broke the season and career
records for touchdowns. During his
career he scored 35 touchdowns for
210 points. Quayle's versatility is
obvious in the school mark he holds
for pass receiving yardage, 1,145
yards on 83 receptions.

Reeve moves into the game unheralded,
but he is an outstanding
defensive back. During his three
years as a starter for the Cavaliers,
he had only three interceptions but

was never beaten badly by anybody.
He is very quick and reacts
well to the ball; he always seems to
be where the ball is. He has been a
part time punter, averaging better
than 37 yards a kick, and may
assume those duties for the South
team.

Quayle's participation in the
Senior Bowl will necessitate an
early end to his lacrosse career,
where he was an All-American for
the past two years. The Senior
Bowl pays $1,000 to members of
the winning team and $750 to each
of the losers, so playing in it will
cost Quayle his amateur status.
There are no cash awards at the
North-South game.
