Footballers Prepared
In looking forward to this
weekend's contest with VMI, the
report has it that the Cavaliers will
be at full strength physically. The
Purdue game was a gruelling
contest; fortunately no serious
injuries were sustained.
The injury list is encouraging,
especially in regard to what the
Boilermakers did to their last year's
opening rival, Texas A & M. The
Aggies lost eight of their 22 starters
for the season in that game,
certainly not the way to kick off a
fall on the gridiron.
Offensive tackle Greg Shelly,
who bruised his rib ca Saturday,
will be held out of contact in this
week's practice, but he will be full
speed for the Keydets. Another
offensive tackle, Gary Saft, is
suffering from a sprained ankle, and
is working out lightly this week,
with the hope that he will see
action against VMI.
On defense, only sophomore
linebacker A Ferrara has been
slowed by an injury to his shoulder,
but he will be ready for full duty
by game time.
In the offensive backfield, Dave
Wynoop has been slowed up by a
sprained shoulder, but like the
others, should be ready by
Saturday afternoon. Frank Quayle's
broken to is still broken, but it
should take the Keydets much
more than that to slow him up.
