South Carolina,
North Carolina
Compile Streaks

South Carolina has now won six
games in a row and is compiling
the longest win streak at Columbia
since 1951. That's sixteen years.
They haven't lost since 1967.

Neither, for that matter, has
North Carolina, which is now
rolling along with a twelve game
streak, which happens to be their
longest since 1957 when they won
32 in a row.

Gamecocks Have Edge

South Carolina holds down
second place in the ACC standings,
but their lead is solely in the win
column. The Gamecocks have a
6-2 won-less record, followed immediately
by Duke and N. C.
State at 5-2.

It will be another ten days before
there is a face-to-face confrontation
between these three
trailers. The occasion will be the
North-South doubleheader at
Charlotte, when State and USC
meet.

Heels Cut It Close

North Carolina is 14-1, and
they are averaging beating their
opponents by a mere 7.4 points
a game. But then Wake Forest,
which is 4-13, is losing by an
average of 4.4 points a game. That
hurts.

Widest margins belong to South
Carolina (14.3) and Duke (12.8).
At the other end, Clemson is being
beaten by 11.4 points a game.

Lewis Top Scorer

In individual scoring, Duke's
Mike Lewis has jumped from third
place to first, just a few hundredths
of a percentage point in front
of Larry Miller. Butch Zatezalo,
Clemson's sophomore guard, has
fallen from first to third. Lewis
has been getting in the habit of
scoring 30 or more points a game
of late.
