Harriers Loose Triangle Meet

Carolinians Win

Last Friday afternoon on the
University's cross country course
in a double dual meet, the University's
harriers were downed
24-31 by North Carolina State and
18-47 by the University of North
Carolina.

Truitt Goodwin of University of
North Carolina had the winning
time of 25 minutes 37.3 seconds,
which is a new course record after
the course was lengthened about
a mile over last year's distance.

A new University record for
the course was set by Brian
Magoon who placed third overall
and first for the team. The time
for the record run was 26 minutes,
1 second which is some two minutes
faster than the previous record.

Magoon is a first-year man from
Cox High School in Norfolk and
has been steadily improving each
time he has run. Last Monday at
William and Mary he ran the five-mile
course for the first time and
Friday improved by two minutes
over his timing at Williamsburg.

Captain John "Dribbles" Wilson
came in second for the
team and ninth overall. He cut
his previous five-mile effort by
three minutes.
