Coach Tom Cahill named his
starting offensive and defensive
teams for action against Virginia
as Army opens its 1967 football
season at home this Saturday at
Michie Stadium.

Lettermen dominate the offensive
unit with ends Terry Young
and Gary Steele, tackle Keith Harrelson,
guard John Nerdahl, center
Don Roberts, quarterback Steve
Lindell, halfbacks John Peduto and
Carl Woessner and fullback
Charlie Jarvis, all award-winners
last year.

Jayvee Rise

The other two positions go to
Bob Ivany, junior tackle from
Westlake, Ohio, and guard Frank
Nader, a senior from Brainerd,
Minnesota. Both played on the
Jayvce team last year. Nader saw
eleven minutes of varsity play in
1966, seven against Notre Dame
and four against Pitt.

"The General"

The defensive unit attracts seven
lettermen, including captain Bud
Neswiacheny who plays "The General"
role. That's Army's equivalent
of a roving lineman.

Tackles Bob Gora and Steve
Yarnell, middle guard Pat Mente,
linebackers Ken Johnson and Jim
Bevans and defensive back Hank
Toczylowski are the other veterans.

Rounding out the team will be
ends Ollie Johnson, a senior from
Winnsboro, South Carolina, and
Tom Wheelock, a junior from Falls
Church, Virginia, and defensive
backs Jim McCall from Pittsburgh,
and Nick Kuecke from Parma,
Ohio. Both are juniors. It will
be Luecke's first varsity action.

Three Others

There were three other lettermen
when the season started, and
two will play Saturday. Kicking
specialist Nick Kurilko will handle
the punting and kickoffs. Tackle
Elwood Cobey will be on hand to
back up the defensive duo of Gora
and Yarnell.

The other veteran is quarterback
Jim O'Toole, who suffered
a shoulder separation in pre-season
practice and is lost for part
of the season.

Back-Up Quarterback Lost

O'Toole was Army's backup
quarterback, but his loss elevated
a pair of signal-callers to the varsity
roster.

Working at the job are Dick
Shipley, a senior from Xenia, Ohio,
who has been running the Jayvee
team for the past two years, and
Roger LeDouz, quarter back of the
1966 Plebe team which finished the
season with a 4-4 record.
