Bowlers Blow Early Lead,
Outrolled By Maryland

The Virginia Bowling Club
crushed winless Richmond and
lost to undefeated Maryland to
wrap up their regular season
schedule. Using primarily
substitutes, Virginia eased by
Richmond Saturday 72-18, but
the first string was unable to
dent Maryland's perfect 8-0
record Sunday and lost 54-36.

The keglers jumped out to a
12-4 lead over the Terps, but
lost the match in the second
and third games, being
outscored 30-2. Maryland
averaged 197 over this two
game span and outbowled
Virginia by 227 pins. Virginia's
comeback effort over the final
two games fell ninety pins shy.
Gary Dungan and Ed Rogers
went the distance for Virginia,
rolling 973 and 896 sets
respectively.

Except for Rogers, Virginia
used second stringers in
Saturday's match against
Richmond. First-year man Jeff
Brat added a spark to the
kegler's future with an
impressive 891 performance.

The bowling team finished
the season with a 5-3 record.
