N.C. State Heads ACC Stats

BY FLETCHER THOMPSON

Undefeated N.C. State's
high-powered offense
continues to outdistance
all-comers in the latest ACC
statistics.

Led by David Thompson,
who paces all scorers with a
26.1 average, and the spidery
Tom Burleson, the 'Pack still
tops the century mark with a
100.9 tallies per outing.

Cavalier rooters can take
solace in the fact that their
team tops the league in
defense, permitting 71.4 points
on the average, but their usual
victory margin of 5.7 comes
nowhere near the Wolfpack's
27.1 spread.

Virginia's first-year flash,
Wally Walker continues his
steady climb toward the upper
regions of the scoring column
with a 14-point average, while
Barry Parkhill still tops the
Cavs, with 18 points per
contest, good for fifth in the
league.

Lefty Driesell's coop of tall
turkey's occupies the top perch
in rebounding with Tom
McMillen leading the way. At
the other end of the spectrum
are the Wahoos, although Gus
Gerard checks in at fifth
hauling down 8.3 errant shots.

Free throw shooting finds
the excitable Bud Martin of
Clemson, shooting a cool 87.5
percent, atop the heap. The
Duke Blue Devils, who haven't
been able to do much else this
year, have shown a remarkable
proficiency from the line and
lead the league.
