"Pigskin Prognostications": Still Another Service

From The Boys Down At South Rivanna Graphies

As the football season winds
into its sixth week we find the
CD's Panel of Puissant
Prognosticators enmeshed in a
cutthroat struggle for
supremacy. John Markon, the
pride of both Gastonia, N.C.
and Nashville's Commodore
Lounge, is still in first but must
contend with a bevy of hot and
eager challengers.

Fletcher Thompson, one
game off the pace, did his best
to aid the Canny Carolinian
this week by differing from all
nine seers in selecting Texas
over powerful Oklahoma and
picking moribund Villanova
over Virginia's ACC rival,
Maryland.

Cowboys, 'Pack Favored

Even Fletch, however,
wasn't brazen enough to
choose either Virginia Tech or
Wake Forest, heavy underdogs
in their games with Oklahoma
State and N. C. State,
respectively.

Doughty Takes Tigers

Also only a game in arrears
is "Dangerous Doug" Doughty.
Doughty, previously a danger
only to the reputation of the
Progs Board, is similarly taking
himself out of this week's
picture in his "lone wolf" picks
of Clemson over Duke and
Auburn over LSU.

In other games, only Davis
Marshall dissents as North
Carolina is picked over
Kentucky. Tom Bell, Doughty,
Steve Gaske and Bill Berno
(another Commodore Lounge
vet) boost Vanderbilt over
William & Mary, and Randy
Wert leads a pack of five Navy
fans while Barney Cooke,
Ernest Dempsey and three
other know-nothings sponsor a
Syracuse win.
