Intramural Program
Seeking Participation

By BILL BERNO

The intramural fall sports
season, which ended November
30, leaves two fraternities
battling for High Point honors.

Defending champion Phi
Kap has a slender lead over Phi
Gam, 904-882. PiKa holds
down third spot with 820,
followed by AEPi, with 785,
and Phi Delt, which has earned
717 points.

The fall sports offered by
the Intramural Department
included touch football, 3-man
basketball, volleyball, foul
shooting, tennis, handball, and
horseshoes.

The beginning of this
semester also marks the start of
winter sports competition.
Students may sign up to
compete in bowling, 5-man
basketball, squash, swimming
pool, and boxing. However,
those who plan to enter the
boxing tournament must
attend at least ten supervise
workouts to be held starting
February 10 in Memorial
Gymnasium.

John C. Lafley, assistant
intramural director, encourages
all students to participate in
the intramural program. He
stated that the number of IM
cards issued has increased by
180 over last year. Also, there
were a total of 180 basketball
teams playing in intramural
leagues, which is a very large
number for a student body of
12,000.

Mr. Lafley also said that a
number of new sports were to
be added to the program in the
near future. In particular,
water polo and water
basketball will be played in the
new natatorium when it is
completed. If enough students
should show interest in an
activity on a competitive basis,
the Intramural Department will
try to add the activity to its
growing list of sports.
Expansion, in this case, is
beneficial.
