Series Matches Birds, Bucs

The 1971 version of the World
Series gets underway tomorrow
afternoon in Baltimore with the AL
Champion Orioles facing the
Pittsburgh Pirates, best in the
National League.

The Birds are heavily favored to
whip the Bucs and will in all
likelihood send lefty Dave McNally
to the mound in Game One. The
Pirates, who are a bit strapped for
healthy starting pitchers, will
counter with Steve Blass, only Buc
pitcher to lose a game in the
playoff series with San Francisco.

In Sunday's second game the
Birds will probably throw Miguel
Cuellar and follow him with Jim
Palmer and McNally. The Pirate
rotation is quite indefinite with
Luke Walker, Bob Johnson, Dock
Ellis and rookie Bruce Kison all
candidates.

The third game will be played
on Tuesday in Pittsburgh with the
fourth game scheduled foe
Wednesday night, the first
appearance of night baseball in the
Fall Classic.
