Stickmen Trounce
Alumni Team, 20-4

By Jim Wilson

Last weekend Virginia's lacrosse
team took time out from collegiate
competition to play an Alumni
team in Baltimore. With neither
team playing extremely tight
lacrosse, the current Cavaliers
destroyed the Alumni contingent
20-4.

The Cavaliers' advantages in
conditioning and team experience
were clearly evident throughout the
game. The Cavaliers' offense
dominated the game. If it had not
been for a merciful Cavalier stall
towards the end of the game, the
score would have been much more
outrageous.

Last year's Alumni team had
many players from yesteryear who
played briefly and were replaced.
This year the game was supposed to
be a more typical game with fewer
and younger Alumni playing for
longer periods of time. This idea
did not work. Nor would any other
plan have worked for the Cavaliers
had a clear playing advantage over
the Alumni.

Even this year's emphasis on
young alumni did not help for the
undergraduates could have
fast-breaked the grads off of the
field whenever they wanted. The
periods of the game were shortened
also in order that Alumni would
not be too out of breath when the
game was over to enjoy the
post-game party!

For the Virginia team the game
presented another chance to
sharpen up shots and smooth down
its plays. Paced by Tom Duquette's
five goals and Jay Conner's six
assists, Virginia's attack made many
plays work very well. Pete Eldredge
tallied three times to remain the top
scoring middie. Middies Doug
Cooper and Bill Kearney scored
twice as did attackman Rick Beach.
