Tarheel Bats Slug Mittmen

The Cavalier baseballers found
the going rough Saturday in the
first of two weekend games in
North Carolina as they took a 12-5
walloping at the hands of the
University of North Carolina.

Steve Brindle took his first
setback of the season against the
Tar Heels, as he lasted only until
the third inning, when the Tar
Heels exploded for six runs after a
single score in the second. His
record is now 5-1.

Brian Hilbrun took over for
Brindle in the third and was
followed by Al Strange in the sixth,
but neither could stop the Tar Heel
onslaught.

The Cavaliers could manage only
nine hits against winning pitcher
John Danneman, while the Virginia
pitchers gave up 17 hits to the
powerful Tar Heel bats

Virginia scored three runs in the
third and two more in the ninth,
but was unable to score in any of
the other innings as Danneman,
who went the distance, struck out
eight and gave up no free passes.
