Golfers Win Opener

The University of Virginia golf
team won its first match last
Sunday by defeating a team from
Farmington Country Club,
51½-20½.

Third-yearman Phil Crane shared
medalist honors along with John
Snyder of Farmington. Both fired
six-over-par 76's on the Club
course.

In other weekend action, Robert
Dunn shot 81-79-76-81 for a 317
total and low honors in a
tournament held at the par 73
Keswick Club course. The
tournament qualified 15 out of the
35 men who entered for berths on
this year's golf team.

Dunn's score was seven shots
better than runners-up Phil Crane
and Henry Stevens. Others who
qualified for the 1971 team were
Mike Mozur, Tom MacPherson,
King Ochmig, and Rich Barrikman.

Also Rick Miller, Brad
Reynolds, Marty Gerr, and Ted
Chandler survived the cut, along
with Britt Stenson, Skip Gault, Ben
Gray, and Tom Schneider.

On Sunday, March 28 the UVA
Golfers will play a team from
Keswick Club at Keswick. The
regular season play will begin April
1 at Furman.
