The Cavaliers' final warm
up before the all important
ACC wrestling tournament
comes Saturday night in
Memorial Gym as they take on
an tough Duke team in a
conference meet.

"We are expecting some real
stiff competition from Duke's
outstanding wrestling team,"
says Head Coach George
Edwards, who points out that there
will be a number of outstanding
individual matchups.

The highlight of the match, and
a possible preview of next week's
tournament final, should be in the
142-pound match when John
Pegues, last year's ACC champion
takes on Dan Morano of Duke, last
year's tournament runner up.
Pegues edged Morano 5-4 in the
final last season, and both are
undefeated in ACC competition
thus far.

Two other matches will pair
wrestlers who are undefeated in the
conference. Virginia's Jack
Johndrow will face Duke's Dan
Stennerowski in the 118-pound
class, and John Pitas will face Dale
Williams at 126. These matches will
decide the important top seedings
for the tournament.

Defending ACC heavyweight
champ Ed Newman will face
improving Bill Farrell in the night's
final match. Both are football
players and this should "be a big
match to highlight the evening"
according to Mr. Edwards.

The Cavaliers are currently
riding a two-match win streak,
having won easily over conference
opponents N.C. State and North
Carolina. They are 4-1 since
semester break, losing only to
Indiana of the Big Ten by two
points, without starters Shelley
Zablow and Farrell.

"We are hoping for a big win to
help us keep our momentum
going," says Mr. Edwards of the
match which starts at 7:30 in
Memorial Gym.
