Swimmers Find Water Rough
Virginia's Divers Found Going Rough In 'Tar Heel Land'
N.C. State, UNC Crushed Cavaliers In Last Regular Meet
Virginia's swimming team ended
its dual meet season on a somewhat
sour but expected note over the
weekend with losses to North
Carolina State and UNC by
respective scores of 79-34 and
80-33.
However, Coach Ron Good
was generally pleased with his
team's 7-4 seasonal won-lost mark
and cited the swimmers' ability to
fare reasonably well in certain races
against scholarship teams.
Records Broken
The weekend losses did have
some bright spots in the form of
record-breaking performances by
co-captain Don Farmer and
first-yearman Mark Bernadino.
At State Friday, Farmer lowered
his own school record in the
100-yard backstroke to :56.6, and
Bernadino lowered his 200-yard
butterfly mark to 2:04.0. Against
UNC, Bernadino showed his
amazing versatility by breaking his
own 1,000 yard freestyle record
with a time of 10:37.7.
ACC Meet Next
Next on the nautical agenda is
the ACC championship meet at
Raleigh, where Coach Good hopes
to out swim South Carolina in the
battle for 4th place.
