Bischoff Leads Record Barrage

Now that the 1970 Cavalier
football season has drawn to its
dreary close, the team's statistic,
have likewise ended for the year.
Despite the team's record the
offensive team statistics are
surprisingly good.

Many people just look at the
final team scores, but neglect to
look above this bottom line to see
that, in most of our games, we have
been outgaining our opponents.
The emergence of three members of
this year's team into the top
echelon of all-time Virginia players
illustrates the offensive yardage
success of the team.

Leading this group is
quarterback Bill Troup as he joined
five lists of offensive leaders. Troup
gained 1313 total yards, 1289
passing and the rest rushing. These
stats earned him a place on the
ACC's 1200 yard club. For Virginia
his record list reads sixth in season
total offense, twelfth in career
offense, fourth in season passing,
and eighth in career passing.

Also included in this top five
record section are receivers Bob
Bischoff and Dave Sullivan. For the
season Sullivan and Bischoff come
in fourth with 523 yards and fifth
with 499 yards in total yardage
respectively. Career wise soph
Sullivan is eleventh while
graduating Bischoff retires as the
second place all-time pass receiver
in Cavalier history with a final
total of 1109 yards.

The third year rushing twosome
of Gary Helman and Jim Lacey
have been moving up in the Virginia
record ranks. This season Helman's
4.3 and Lacy's 4.6 yard averages
were good for season totals of 743
and 609 yards which clinched for
them tenth and sixteenth place on
the season record list. Helman's last
season total of 851 yards coupled
with this season's total gives him
the fifth place rushing slot right
behind 'Bullet Bill' Dudley.
