Riders Outscore Alumni, 14-7

By Mark Pirrung
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Virginia polo combined a tough
eager offense with a solid dependable
defense to enable themselves
to trounce the University Alumni 14
to 7 on Sunday.

John Stuart, performing for the
first time before the Charlottesville
crowds this fall, proved himself to
be a blood and guts player. Stuart
scored five times from his position
at back. On his success Stuart remarked
after the game, "The ponies
ran well; they played with a good
pacing only thank my groom."

Banks 'Too Hot'

David Banks tallied the remaining
six goals for the Cavaliers, scoring
many shots from half field.
Banks was too hot for the alumni
defense, and even scored once for
the opposition.

Reid Graham although having an
off day was able to put on an
outstanding defensive performance,
breaking up many close plays by
the opponents. Graham scored
three times during the match.

The alumni team came on strong
in the first chukka scoring from one
of the seven goals in the early part
of the game.

Norden's Play Strong

Ray Norden played for the
alumni and came on strong, scoring
three times in the first few minutes
of the game but relaxed to defense
when he realized his support.

Roger Rinehart scored once in
the last chukka, and was not playing
his best game.

The Virginia squad will next
face a team from the University
Club that has presented its annual
challenge to the varsity. The game
will be held at the Farmington
Hunt Club Arena on Garth Road at
2:30 next Sunday.
