Arnette Wins Z Award

Gene Arnette has been
awarded the Z Society's Lee
McLaughlin Award for his
performance in Saturday
afternoon's Spring football
game.

Awarded every year to the
outstanding Alumni football
player in the traditional
Alumni-Varsity game, the
trophy is given in honor of Lee
McLaughlin, an alumnus of the
University and a former
football player who was killed
in an automobile accident last
winter. Arnette was selected by
the corps of sports writers
covering the match. The
presentation was made at a
banquet held at the Boar's
Head Inn after the game.

A member of the class of
1969. Arnette completed
eighteen of thirty-seven passes,
throwing three for
touchdowns, accounting for all
of the Alumni's six point
efforts. Last year's award went
to tailback Frank Quayle.

Both Arnette and Quayle
were members of the
sensational Virginia team of
1968, which still holds all ACC
offensive records. Arnette is in
flight training school at
Pensacola, Florida, where he
played football this fall.
