SAC Revised Rules Approved

Director of Athletics Steve Sebo
has approved a list of recommendations
made by the Student
Athletic Committee regarding the
award system for athletes at the
University. By the move the list of
suggestions will become University
Hall policy.

In a letter to Mr. Sebo from
Jack Wilson, president of the SAC,
the following recommendations
were made.

1. A maximum of two awards
will be awarded per sport.

2. Awards cannot be awarded on
consecutive years (this remains
unchanged).

3. Watch award will remain
unchanged with the amendment
that only one watch can be
awarded per athlete.

4. Captains will receive additional
award of a lapel pin.

5. It will always be the responsibility
of the Athletic Department,
through its coaches, to inform all
athletes of the award requirements
and award options prior to each
season.

6. The athletes can annually
contest and/or change the letter
requirements of their respective
sports.

7. Awards and watches can
always be open to additional
recipients, through captains and
coaches, by proper appeal to the
SAC.

The SAC wanted to make the
awarding of a watch more of an
honor than it had been in the past,
and now wish to make it clear that
one will be awarded to an athlete
only in his fourth year. Those
wishing to earn a watch should wait
until their fourth year before
receiving their second award, since
a maximum of only two awards
may be received per sport.

The members of the SAC, the
captains of all the University teams,
felt that the recommendations
should be implemented both to
more properly recognize significant
athletic accomplishments at the
University, and to give proper
recognition to athletes who participate
in more than one sport. In
the past they felt that athletes
weren't properly informed of the
requirements before the season,
which led to confusion at the end
of the year.
