Golf Team Wins First Match

In competition at Keswick Club
Tuesday, Virginia's golf team
opened its 1970 campaign on a high
note by defeating Bucknell University,
18½ to 5½.

Butch Slaughter's golfers were
victorious in six of the eight
matches, tied one, and dropped
another.

The Cavalier's Jay Jennison
earned medalist honors with a 76
on the par 73 course while
defeating Bucknell's Steve Huston
by a 3-0 count.

In other matches, Paul Samane
hike of Virginia carded a 771 and
dropped Ken Solar, who was low
man for thy Bison with a score of
79.

Cavaliers Bubba Victor and Phil
Crane sank their respective opponents,
Doc Rimer and Ed Bondt, by
identical scores of 2-1.

Rich Barrickman and King
Ochmig blanked their Buckness
foes, Ed Bondi and Gary Gross, by
scores of 3-0. In his round, Ochmig
has an impressive 77.

Britt Stenson of Virginia tied
Bison Marty Erb 1½ to 1½ and the
Cavaliers' lone loss occurred as Will
Shannahan lost to Bucknell's Al
Shiffler, 2-1.

Virginia seeks its second straight
win at Keswich this afternoon in a
match against Bowling Green University
of Ohio.
