Travel To
State, Duke

This weekend, while most University
students are enjoying the
festivities of Mid-Winters. Virginia's
wrestling team will be in North
Carolina for two dual matches with
Duke and N.C. State.

N.C. State, with vast improvement
over last year, has risen to be
one of the top wrestling powers in
the ACC and, to the present, sports
an unblemished record. Duke,
which finished last in the ACC
tournament last year, is again
considered weak, except in three
weight classes 142, 190 and
unlimited.

Several Cavalier winning streaks
will be on the line this weekend
when the teams take the mat.
Shelley Zablow, who hasn't lost
since the State Tournament, and
Lynn Houser, who is undefeated
since returning from a knee operation,
are two first-year men who
have shown outstanding promise on
the mat. Two second-year men,
John Pitas and I m Pavia, along
with Zablow and Houser all posted
wins over powerful William and
Mary last week and should continue
to win in North Carolina.

At the beginning of the year it
was noted that the emphasis in
wrestling would be on winning the
Atlantic Coast Conference Championships
and to work towards
building a wrestling power at
Virginia. The matmen now have a
6-3 record, and an outstanding
performance against the Wolfpack,
and could hasten the competition
of these goals.
