Mermen, Matmen Set
For Weekend Action
By Winston Wood
Cavalier Daily Staff Cyni
Long reminiscent of cigar
smoke, cheap theatres, masked fat
men, and little old ladies in combat
boots, professional wrestling comes
to Charlottesville Saturday night.
Through the cooperation of
Athletic Department Enterprises of
University Hall, Inc., tag team
wrestling has been scheduled as a
preliminary to this weekend's Virginia-North
Carolina match. With a
program studded with grappling
celebrities, the bout will immediately
follow the South Carolina
basketball game.
Fresh from back to back 7-3
seasons, members of the Virginia
football team will appear. Featured
as the villains will be 5-11, 180-1b.
"Hokie Haystack" Viar and his
partner, the Dunnington Destroyer,
5-11, 200-1b. Tom Paton.
Defending their title will be
"Brazen Bobo" Bressan, the
Russian Bone Breaker, and his team
mate Randy Lestyk. Officiating will
be dogfaced Jim Shannon, and as
reported earlier, the contest will be
fixed.
Virtually crushing the Tar Heels
last year down in Chapel Hill, 28-5,
George Edward's grapplers stand
3-0 for the season as a result of last
week's win in the triangular meet
against VMI, W & L, and VCU.
Third yearman Don Farmer
broke the school record for the 200
yard backstroke in Wednesday's
swimming meet with the University
of Maryland, Placing second to
Terp Rick Duschl, he was clocked
at 2:11.5.
