With four unanimous choices
out of nine, the Cavalier Daily's
staff of Saturday soothsayers again
tries to better its average from that
of last week. Editor Bob Cullen and
Architecture student Bill Reese are
on top of the pile early in the
season, both sporting 8-1 records,
while Hugh Antrim, Barney Cooke,
Gordy Rawles, and Gino Giannini
tie for second, as a result of a
unanimous miscall over Richmond-Mississippi
State last Friday. Davis
Marshall lies at the bottom of the
heap, with a 6-3 state.

Sticking with some pretty safe
calls, they pick Army, North
Carolina State, South Carolina, and
Richmond to be odds-on favorites
in their respective contests with
Vanderbilt, Maryland, VMI, and the
North Carolina Tarheels.

The consensus picks Boston
College over the Naval Academy
before an opening day crowd in
Boston, and down in New Orleans,
West Virginia is expected to handle
Tulane with the same relative case
with which they handled Maryland
last week.

Editor Antrim, however, feels
that the Green Wave is in for a big
day, and gives them the nod as a
wish pick, along with a Wake Forest
win over VPI, in another longshot.

Down in Knoxville, what appears
to be the most exciting game
of the day kicks off when Tennessee
meets Auburn in a projected
U.T. upset. Auburn rolled over
Wake Forest last Saturday, to the
tune of 57-0, but Tennessee should
still be able to handle the Auburn
offense, and emerge as a strong
Southeast Conference contender.

Upset or not, the biggest game
of the day is here in Charlottesville,
as the Cavaliers battle the Duke
Blue Devils to keep their heads
above water in ACC competition.
The CD staff, however, picks the
Virginia eleven all across the board
to handle Duke just as easily as
they did in Durham last year.
