Female Cheer leaders
Round Out Pep Squad

For many years Wahoo supporters
in the stands of Scott
Stadium have been thrilled at the
antics of the all male cheerleaders.

Virginia fans are the only ones
in the ACC that have this privilege.
For many years this time honored
tradition has come under fire from
the student body; but in the past
nothing could be done about it. But
now, as supported by Judge Merhige,
the University will have
women among her undergraduates.

Inspired by this decision, the
liberal minded Cheerleaders have
decided to abandon their past
prejudices and seek appropriate
women to join their ranks as the
intrepid leaders of spirit and cheer.

Co-Head Cheerleader Andy
Walker issued this statement earlier
today: "To booster the true spirit
inside the school, the Cheerleaders
should like to interview any young
ladies interested in joining the
Cheerleading Squad. Only those
who are presently a Virginia student
will be considered. We hope
for a large turnout. Bribes will not
be taken."

All candidates vying for this
honor should meet on Thursday
night at 6:30 in the Conference
Room near the main desk on the
third floor of Newcomb Hall.

Although those lucky ladies
chosen will not be ready to lead the
players on the field Saturday, they
will be unveiled shortly after the
opening of the season. The cheerleaders
will kick off the 1969
Wahoo campaign with a pep rally
Friday night on the steps of the
Rotunda.
