Atlanta Of NBA Drafts
Co-Captain Carmichael

It was learned yesterday that
Norm Carmichael was selected by
the Atlanta Hawks basketball team
in the annual NBA draft held last
week.

Due to a UPI wire service
omission, Carmichael was unsure of
the specific round in which he was
picked, but believed it to be the
ninth or tenth.

Norm Carmichael, starting at
center for the Cavaliers during the
past three seasons, holds the Virginia
career mark in the rebound
category. His total of 622 breaks
the old record of 612 rebounds
held by Gene Engels (1961-63).

Carmichael will participate in
the Atlanta Hawks rookie camp to
be held June 9-20. Of the pro
hopefuls going to this summer
camp, probably only five will be
asked to remain with the parent
team. Carmichael has, however,
contacted an agent, and is working
on contract possibilities.

Not really concerned with the
outcome of the rookie training, the
6-9 center believes that he will be
playing basketball next winter
regardless, possibly in Europe with
the International Basketball
Federation.

Carmichael looks forward to
playing ball in the pro ranks — with
Atlanta or with a European outfit.
He feels that this career would be
"a chance to prove what you can
do."
